Owl pellets are sooooo cool! The fourth graders were busy investigating owl pellets in science. Be sure to ask your child what is in an owl pellet. The next thing we did was to classify bones based on size and shape and glued them on an identification chart.
We reminisced about our summer adventures and then wrote about one of our favorites. You probably read your child's at open house. Each child read their "Short" story to their peers. The students did a great job.
We are in the process of writing a bio poem and a descriptive piece entitled "Which Witch is Which." This writing works well as we investigate homonyms and adjectives.

Each reading group in fourth grade was able to choose their own name. "The Goonies," shown above, read the story entitled "The Hat." As an extension activity, each member of the group created and modeled their own unusual hat. The hats were very unique and worn with pride.
Last week in science class we learned how much we depend on our moveable joints to complete everyday tasks. Each fourth grader had the opportunity to have their thumb or fingers immobilized with a masking tape and a small rod. Then they were invited to complete a variety of tasks ranging from cutting out circles, using a thumbtack to attach an object to the bulletin board, and writing a letter just to name a few. As they concentrated, laughed and giggled through each center, it became quite obvious that we are lucky we have moveable joints. Ask a fourth grader to tell you what the three different types of joints are and where they are located on our body.
